Wegmans recalls Asian chicken salad over possible egg allergen

Wegmans supermarket chain is warning consumers to ditch or return its Large Asian Sesame Salad with Chicken in a voluntary recall over a potential undeclared egg allergen.
The affected salads were assembled between Nov. 5 and 8 with sell-by dates of Nov. 7 through 10, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said.
The salads were sold in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Delaware and Washington, D.C.
Any product with a UPC code that starts with 2-27306 should raise a red flag, both the company and the FDA said. Customers can return the product for a full refund.
There have been no reported illnesses or other adverse reactions, the company said, emphasizing that the recall was a precaution. No further details were provided on the nature of the egg allergen or how it was discovered.
Earlier this year, Wegmans just as cryptically yanked a brand of pepperoni from its shelves out of concern it might contain “possible metal foreign material.”
The Rochester, N.Y.-based grocer opened its first New York City store at Astor Place just over a year ago. In all, there are more than 110 stores, 49 of them in New York State, according to its website.
